During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, the network of local churches around the world fills shoeboxes with gifts for children who otherwise would not have any gifts. Samaritan's Purse has a follow-up program for these children who receive these shoeboxes. It is called the Greatest Journey. Samaritan's Purse offers this discipleship program to these children. The children ar instructed in how to know and follow Christ.
During the last five years, 2.8 million children have participated in the Greatest Journey, including 1.1 million who have made decisions for Christ.
The Greatest Journey is a 12-week study followed by a graduation ceremony witnessed by family and friends. This Bible study helps children understand God's plan of salvation and our responsibility to share the Good News. Recently in Fiji 15 boys and girls received the gift of salvation through the Greatest Journey study. Those 15 invited friends to the study and a result are now over 700 new believers. In Barranquilla Colombia recently 62 children invited friends to witness their graduation. Following this graduation ceremony, 300 more children are enrolled in the Greatest Journey. In Veliko Tarnovo Bulgaria a local church reached out to a school located across the street which serves primarily Muslim children. Several children prayed to accept Christ, but they are also sharing their faith as several parents and grandparents are now attending church. There are many more children who would like to enroll in this program, but Samaritan's Purse does not have the resources to expand. For just $6 a month you can sponsor 12 children for a year. That is only $72 for the year. Go to samaritanspurse to sign up for a monthly gift of $6 or a one-time gift of $72.
