Imagination Day
October 10
Imagination Day:
Play is children’s work, it’s how they learn.
Avery Street Church is offering monthly play events called Imagination Day. The time is designed for families to come together and for volunteers from the church to set up a variety of fun activities for children. Activities may include crafts, games, stories, and the Imagination Playground.
Parents or other caregivers can enjoy the activities with their children or sit and enjoy some coffee and conversation with other parents.. Children can make new friends, be creative, unwind, and have a great time playing.
The Imagination Playground 'big blue blocks' are a foam block play system that promotes teamwork, physical activity, and social interaction as children build structures, invent games, and stay actively engaged for hours. Avery Street’s Imagination Playground was funded through a grant from South Windsor’s Better Together Grants.
Here are some of the comments about the Imagination Playground:
- It’s open ended with unlimited possibilities of what you can make
- So big it encourages working together
- Blocks are light, so its east to lift and build, design and invent through imaginative play.
- Parents like to watch the kids think and problem solve as they imagine what they might build
- They are learning spacial relationships and pre-engineering skills.
