Worship

"...if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
(2 Chron. 7:14  NIV)

Worship

In his article, "An Introduction to Reformed Worship," Gregory Rickmar identifies the following three characteristics of worship:

  1. Worship is a dialogue between God and His people.
    • Like invited dinner guests, God's people attend worship by divine invitation.
    • God speaks and acts, and his people respond.
  2. Worship is a covenant renewal between God and His people.
    • God speaks, and his people promise their obedience.
  3. Worship is regulated by the Word of God.
    • God has instructed us in Deuteronomy 12:32, "See that you do all I have commanded you; do not add to it or take away from it."

Worship is an integral part of life at Avery Street Christian Reformed Church.

The Lord Jesus said, "...I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.  For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 20:17-18 NIV)

In obedience to His calling, and in gratitude for His free gift of salvation, we assemble each week to meet our triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.)

Worship is a time for dialogue with God, where we:

  • Greet God joyfully
  • Examine our brokenness
  • Receive God's Unconditional Love
  • Identify ourselves as God's Covenant People
  • Learn about God's Plan of Salvation
  • Respond to Him in gratitude and Praise!

We gather as a family of believers to worship God:

  • In Prayer
  • In Music
  • In the Preaching of the Word

As a congregation in the Lord Jesus Christ, we celebrate our diversity:

  • People of many ages...Adopted into God's Family
  • People of many backgrounds...Meeting at the Cross of Christ
  • People with different experiences...but One Savior
  • People with many gifts...given by our creator
  • People who are broken...seeking healing from the Great Physician
  • People who are Joined together...in the Grace of God

Our worship music is blended:
  • Joyful to lift our spirits
  • Relective to quiet our hearts
  • Rich Hymns of the faith
  • Uplifting Contemporary Praise
  • Many types of music...for the honor and Glory of the One True God!
